The inaugural installation in the Garden Gallery is the striking Genestreaming Journey Sculpture, a powerful collaboration between Menang Elder Aunty Carol Pettersen OAM and artist Ben Beeton, created in partnership with the Gondwana Link initiative.
This sculpture weaves together First Nations knowledge and ecological science, using art to explore themes of deep time, biodiversity, and conservation. On the outside, First Nations artworks reflect cultural connections to Country. Inside, detailed scientific illustrations reveal stories of local ecosystems, endangered species, and environmental challenges.
Supported by GeoParks WA and auspiced through a cultural tourism grant, the sculpture also serves as part of the Genestreaming Journey Sculpture Trail, a national project connecting communities through place-based storytelling.
