Planning a winter weekender for nature lovers? We’ve crafted the ultimate itinerary just for you! 🌲❄️

Day One: Northcliffe Adventure
Start your journey in Northcliffe, a serene haven away from the hustle. Pack essentials like hiking boots, a raincoat, camera, binoculars, and boundless curiosity. Navigate scenic routes through lush forests via Pemberton-Northcliffe Road or Wheatley Coast Road, soaking in the journey.
First stop: Understory Art & Nature Trail and the Painted Tree Gallery! Delve into a world of over 100 sculptures nestled in ancient forests. Let the optional audio tour reveal the stories behind each piece while you connect with nature’s artistry.
After an art-filled morning, savour a hearty pub lunch at Northcliffe Hotel. Stock up on supplies at local stores before settling into your accommodation—whether it’s a cosy cottage at Karri Hill Cottages or a campsite at Northcliffe Bush Camp.
Next, embark on an afternoon of exploration along the coast to Windy Harbour. Wander from the boat ramp to Cathedral Beach, discovering treasures washed ashore by the Southern Ocean. Hike to Pt D’Entrecasteaux for breathtaking views and the mystical Windows Lookout.
Opt for a scenic drive or trek along the Cliff Top Walk to Tookalup, marvelling at limestone spires and panoramic ocean vistas. Return via the Coastal Survivors Walk, learning about resilient coastal flora and fauna.
For thrill-seekers, venture east from Windy Harbour for a 4WD expedition or cast a line at Salmon Beach for a chance to reel in a catch against a stunning coastal backdrop.
As dusk paints the cliffs in hues of sunset, unwind with local delicacies gathered from Northcliffe, perhaps at Salmon Beach or Tookalup Lookouts, before retiring to Northcliffe Hotel for drinks and a delicious meal with newfound friends.
Day Two: Mt Chudalup and Forest Serenity
Rise early for a sunrise ascent of Mt Chudalup, just south of Northcliffe. Enjoy panoramic views over D’Entrecasteaux National Park and the Southern Ocean, followed by a leisurely picnic breakfast amidst native birdlife at the carpark’s BBQ hut.
Return to Northcliffe to check out and pack a picnic lunch for later.
Explore Northcliffe Forest Park, a 240-hectare nature reserve offering trails ranging from leisurely strolls to sections of the famous Bibbulmun Track and Munda Biddi Trail. Capture the majesty of towering trees and observe local bird species in their natural habitat.
Discover the rich history of Northcliffe at the Northcliffe Pioneer Museum, then traverse the backroads to Boorara Tree, once a fire lookout towering above the landscape. Visit the replica lookout hut and imagine the daily life of fire spotters.
As you head home, reflect on your rejuvenating escape into nature, knowing you’re just a booking away from witnessing the wildflower spectacle in September-October. Until next time, adventure awaits! 🌼🌳
